Do you remember years ago the ‘bloody Volvo driver’ campaign? Well, whilst it was iconic, it didn’t make you want to rush out and buy a Volvo.
Fast forward to 2014 and Volvo has come out swinging in the V8 Supercars Championship with their new flagship sports car the S60 Polestar. They’ve had wins and some awesome podium finishes already and in that same time made new fans (like me) and made their cars look cool again.
This is even more profound with the Erebus Mercedes and Nissan Motorsport teams having mixed results throughout their first and now second seasons. It was this exact reason why it was unexpected to see Scott McLaughlin in his Volvo performing so well so early into the season.
These results have meant that Volvo is suddenly on the minds of car enthusiasts all around because of this surprise result and also one great looking race car. The Rebel Blue looks awesome and even better that they’ve kept the similarity to their road car – more than what you probably could say about the others.
Now moving on to the Volvo range and you can see that they’ve started to turn a new leaf over with their design and performance. Looking at their new/latest model, the S60, not only does it seem that they’ve performed a 180, but they have made a car that can now compete with the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.
Peering into the future there’s beautiful concepts like the Volvo Concept XC Coupe that hints at the future of the manufacturer and its new Scalable Platform Architecture. It shows just what their engineering and design teams are capable of, and what their new fans are to expect in the coming years.
