After a successful tour of Europe, the Ford EcoBoost Race Car visits Australia for its first time. It is currently doing a world tour to be a promotional tool for the new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine which will be in the new Ford Fiesta and the all-new Ford EcoSport SUV.
Ford President and CEO, Bob Graziano, says “We built this road-legal race car to demonsrate the outer limits of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost in terms of performance and fuel efficiency”.
When he says ‘outer limits’ he means ‘Italian Supercar butt kicking’ as this specially built Formula Ford race car is an open-wheeler that has completed the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit in just 7 minutes, 22 seconds. Officially the 11th fastest lap time ever. Not bad.
The specially tuned ‘2013 International Engine of the Year’ 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in the Ford EcoBoost Race Car achieves a power output of 152kW, and 2.4litres per 100km at 56km/h and 5litres per 100km at 120km/h.
Unfortunately if you’re keen for a road legal, agile, and unique race car you will have to look elsewhere. The Ford EcoBoost Race Car isn’t for sale, but it is here for the Go Further event on August 13. You’ll just have to experience it in the Ford Fiesta and Ford EcoSport SUV.
The EcoBoost technology itself is also available in 80% of the global nameplates including the locally available Mondeo, Falcon and Kuga SUV.
