Design, functionality and sportiness isn’t usually heard in the same sentence when describing a cult sports car. However these three core pillars are what the Porsche 911 Targa 4S is built on and it’s on tour around Australia before the local launch.
With its fully automatic roof system featuring magnesium elements, and a stunningly simple opening and closing sequence you’re given a car that can be fully enjoyed no matter the weather and that is unmistakeably Porsche.
Its silhouette acknowledges previous Targa models in a somewhat timeless fashion. It provides an exciting and educational experience for those new to a Porsche Targa or any 911 for that fact, plus it provides a familiar home, albeit more modern, for current Porsche owners.
Powering the 911 Targa 4S is a 3.8-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine that outputs 294kW of power and thrusts you from 0-100km in either 4.8 seconds in the manual or 4.6 seconds with the supremely quick PDK transmission.
The current vehicle doing a tour of Australia has the optional Sports Exhaust fitted, and it is something that we highly recommend if you are in fact in the market for a 911 Targa. The raspy start up and crisp note that it produces under acceleration completes a seemingly already complete package.
Throughout the interior is wrapped in leathers and fitted with beautiful brushed metals that will make every driving moment an event. So much so, you’ll have the closest winding mountain road set as your number one favourite destination.
Of course, if you want to make your Porsche your own, they’ll allow you to configure anything and everything about the look and feel. Whether that be body paint colours, wheel colours, leather choices and more.
Drive away pricing starts in the very early $300,000 bracket, and there’s already a line up out the door to get one.
To see the Porsche 911 Targa 4S in person, Porsche Centre Brisbane has the vehicle on display until Wednesday 13 August, 2014.
