The V8 Supercars Championship gets underway this week with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, South Australia. In addition to V8 Supercars attacking the street circuit there will be a LEAF Nismo RC taking on a Nissan GT-R and a Nissan Altima V8 Supercar in a time attack type show down.

Whilst the zero emissions, fully electric powertrain LEAF Nismo RC has been around since 2011, this is the first time that the car has made its way to Australia. This is following brief appearances at the New York Auto Show in 2011 and some events at Le Mans in France and Goodwood in the United Kingdom.

Behind the wheel of this electric rocket will be former V8 Supercars champion Rick Kelly. It will be a big change for him coming from racing at the Bathurst 12 Hour event in the Nissan Nismo GT-R GT3, and testing in the Altima V8 Supercar. No doubt it will be a lot quieter too.

The LEAF Nismo RC is part of the family of electric race cars built by Nissan. Other notable cars include the Nissan ZEOD RC that will take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014.
