Each year the Nissan GT-R gets faster with slight updates and performance enhancements which make it even faster than it already was. If you didn’t think that was fast enough Nissan, has created the Nissan GT-R NISMO. This is the fastest production car to ever lap the Nürburgring.
The time? 7mins 8.679seconds. That’s fast. Really fast. Technically the fastest ‘production car’ time ever.
Michael Krumm, who is a Nissan racing pilot and test driver, drove the 2014 Nissan GT-R NISMO. The time set comes in ahead of cars including the Gumpert Apollo Sport (7:11:57), Dodge Viper ACR (7:12:13), the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package (7:14:64) and the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (7:19:63).
The Nissan GT-R Nismo is powered by a 441kW/652Nm V6 VR38DETT engine, has some incredible aerodynamic work that will produce an additional 100kg of downforce at 300km/h (important to know in Australia right?).
The chassis has been played with so the setup is better tuned, and the springs and dampers are mostly custom-developed. Surprisingly managing all of this at 255/40 tyres on the front and 285/35 tyres on the back.
As mentioned the aerodynamics has been played with and this has introduced some slight styling changes to what is already an iconic and affordable supercar.
Unfortunately, the GT-R NISMO won’t be making its way to Australia, though it will be released in Japan, Europe and the US in the near future. Don’t get too sad though, the updated 2014 GT-R will be making its way here and it is a massive update to the previous 2013 model.
Make sure you watch the video below of the lap and the narration by Michael. It not only shows the pure speed, but some fantastic insight to what he is thinking as a driver.
