If you own a first generation Mazda6 built in 2002 and 2003, you might want to get in touch with your local dealer. The 468 cars which are affected have a potential defect with the passenger side SRS airbag.

Mazda6 Recall

If the airbag is set off, the gas generator may not deliver the right pressure for the bag. Essentially the airbag might not work.

At this point in time, Mazda has said that no reports of the defect affecting any vehicles so far. However Mazda Australia will be contacting affected vehicles owners to have the recall work completed.

Even though we hope that you won’t ever get into a accident that will need the airbag to go off. Any recall work including the above one is definitely worth the time it takes. If you’ve bought your 2002 or 2003 Mazda6 second hand, be proactive and get in touch as Mazda Australia might not have your details.
