Lotus has released the updated version of its Elise S, the flagship model of the Elise range.

This car goes from 0-100 in 4.6 seconds and for comparison, so can a Porsche 911. This hasn’t come at the expense of fuel consumption though with the model quoted to return a hatchback rivaling 7.5-litres per 100 km.

The Elise S produces all of its 163kw and 250 Nm of torque from a tiny, supercharged 1.8-litre engine. This supercharger is new for the model and Lotus say that it will help to exploit the sweet chassis and handling that Lotus is famous for while attempting to eliminate any turbo lag.

Lotus have also done a lot of work under the bonnet of the car to provide more room in the engine bay, reduce the cars NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) levels and keep the car cooler.

The Elise S, which sits above the $68,990 entry model Elise and the $69,990 special edition Elise Club Racer, with a price tag of $79,990, is available to make the hairs on your neck stand up right now.
