RS models from Audi have a tendency to be great, but fall just short of the competition when it comes to putting them head to head. Though the just announced RS 7 Sportback looks set on bucking the trend.
The RS 7 Sportback if you don’t already know will be coming into a market where there is the CLS63 AMG from Mercedes-Benz and the M6 Gran Coupe’ from BMW. Though the numbers from the RS 7 are impressive and sure to make the others a little nervous. Powering the new RS is a Twin-Turbo V8, called the 4.0 TFSI, producing 412kW and 700Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is stated to take just 3.9seconds. Oh, and if you want to go real fast, Audi can delimit the RS 7 at your request to enable a top speed of 305km/h.
Cosmetically, the RS 7 Sportback looks stunning. We, the team at DAF, never thought that we’d see big 4 door vehicles looking good and something which you might want to pin up on your wall. The bonus is that the RS 7 will only consume 9.8litres of fuel per 100km. Not bad for a V8.
A plethora of options are standard as would be expected, though the four internally vented discs have the option to be upgraded to carbon-fibre ceramic discs. We’d hate to know how much that option would be.
There’s no word on pricing at the moment, but will have those details when the 2014 Australian launch gets closer. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know!
