The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) has welcomed an announcement by Coles and Woolworths to limit their supermarket fuel discount offers to 4 cents per litre in Victoria.
This is following campaigning by the VACC, on behalf of its independent service station owner members, against the supermarket fuel discounts. The aggression shown by Coles and Woolworths has made it impossible for the small independent fuel retailers to compete. Particularly with the size, frequency, and duration of the supermarket fuel Groupon.
VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said “This agreement comes after considerable VACC pressure, through our members and our public awareness campaigns. We have argued for more Government intervention in cases where big business dominates small business”
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has also accepted the undertakings from Coles and Woolworths and has dropped their investigation into this issue.
We are hopeful that this has the desired effect, but we feel like that Coles and Woolworths will figure out another way to get ahead in the supermarket fuel discount game.
