We love our car movies here at the Fix and hold many in high regard. There is nothing that keeps us glued to the screen like a good car chase and we think one of the best is from the 1968 action-thriller “Bullitt” starring 60’s icon Steve McQueen.

Who could forget Steve charging through the streets of San Francisco in his Mustang Fastback chasing down the villains in their sinister black Dodge Charger?……Oh, you dont? Well, let us remind you with a small excerpt from the chase……

That very chase has been remade for the modern time in the American TV-series “Alcatraz” and mimics every detail except that Steve has now been replaced by a lady. Check it out below:

We think this new scene, while very true to the original, misses out on some of the drama, action and speed of the 1968 version, thanks to Hollywood-style stunt choreography and 2012 car suspension set ups and speed regulations.

Sadly, the new Charger featured in the remade chase cant be bought here and neither can the Mustang (officially) however there is a company in Victoria that will happily provide you with one for the princely sum of $155,000.

Finally, the scene has made its way to the video-game stage thanks to Driver: San Francisco. Watch an excerpt from the playable event in the game below:
