Check out what has just broken cover. The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo to some may be an unnecessary addition to the 3 Series line-up, but to others it is just what they want.
The 3 Series Gran Turismo is the third variant in the current 3 Series line-up and can be seen as a mix between the Sedan and the Touring. The Gran Turismo hopes to provide those who travel long distances at any one time with the right amount of practicality and comfort for all passengers.
The design itself is quite nice, and a lot better looking than the current 5 Series Gran Turismo. A model which many regard as quite an ugly car. The proportions of this 3 Series is very much like you would expect from BMW with great lines and for the very first time on a BMW, an active rear spoiler. Compared to the 3 Series Touring the Gran Turismo is 200mm longer, 110mm longer wheelbase and 81mm taller.
When the vehicle launches there will be three petrol and two diesel engines to choose from for the Gran Turismo. The engine range from 105kW through to 225kW with all powerplants utilising BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which has been excellent in other vehicles.
The range line up will include the 318d, 320d, 320i, 328i and 335i. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via the option of a 6 speed manual gearbox or the optional eight-speed automatic.
We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the 3 Series Gran Turismo, as the GT form might just work in the 3 Series shape. It looks good, and when we have launch details and pricing we’ll let you know!
