BMW Australia has announced a few specification and performance enhancements for the 5 Series Gran Turismo, including a brand new entry level with the 520d GT priced from $89,900.

Whilst the 5 Series Gran Turismo whilst hasn’t sold like hot cakes, continues to have quiet success and to be honest we weren’t the biggest fans until we saw it on the road.

The 5 Series Gran Turismo lives in its own class stealing the luxury feel from the 7 Series and the ride height just short of that experienced in a SUV. The 520d GT brings the twin turbo 2litre diesel engine producing 135kW and accelerating from 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds. The kicker is that this model sips 5.3L of fuel per 100km.

Flowing through to the rest of the range the 530d GT receives a power increase to 190kW and a drop to 5.6L/100km in regards to fuel economy. Features wise all 5 Series GT’s will now have the Active Protection Safety Package as standard which actively tightens seatbelts to reduce slack, automatically shut windows and the sunroof in a critical situation as well as automatic emergency braking.

The list of options available grows following the update including Parking Assistant, Bang & Olufsen Surround Sound audio system (which is just amazing) as well as an M Sport Package which brings sports suspensions, sports seats, aerodynamics package; 20” M alloy rims, Individual roof liner and M sports steering wheel.

Pricing for the updated 5 Series Gran Turismo is as follows (including GST and LCT but not including dealer charges, stamp duty and other taxes.):

  • 520d GT $89,990
  • 530d GT $103,500
  • 535i GT $109,400
